About Us
Our Mission
When we first started the project: Our Silent Voice, it stemmed from personal experiences. We felt moved to stand with the silent, the quiet survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. We knew there was hidden trauma—shame and stigma. We chose to publish the stories we have collected, to stand with others who have bravely stepped forward and shared their story out loud, for justice and resolution.
These heroes are an inspiration. In gratitude for this leadership, Our Silent Voice is becoming a collective voice for the men, women, and children who remind us everyday we do not have to stand alone in silence.
Who We Are
Janet Pfeifer, Co-Founder
Janet Pfeifer is an author, as well as Co-Directing Editor of Our Silent Voice. A former corporate manager, she built her career by working with corporate leaders and client companies. She lives in Houston, TX with her husband and visits their children and eight grand-teens as often as they can. The grandsons voted to call her GranJan
Marie Posthumus, Co-Founder
Marie Posthumus is an author, as well as Co-Directing Editor of Our Silent Voice. A poet, entrepreneur and business woman, Marie has studied Mental Health First Aid and is a member of NAMI Houston. She has used her writing to foster understanding and compassion for people suffering from the tangled diagnosis of mental illness, trauma and substance use disorder.
All it took was one writer to write down what really happened that time. Then another said, “I know what you mean. The same thing happened to me…” and incredible, freeing stories began to flow.
While reality supports an abundance of stories, Janet and Marie heard the call to create a platform to publish these stories. We want to give you back your voice. We will not remain silent here.
